Add a CommentThis book is such a treat! Stroud provides intricate detail while maintaing a steady pace - you won't want to put this book down! Bartimeaus has the perfect balance of humour and arrogance so that he does not seem overbearing, while Nathaniels' arrogance is kept in check (from being annoying) by his fallibility. This story line is a complete gem. It may not have received the same publicity as other wizarding non-fiction, but it should not be compared to them, anyway. This book holds its own, and is well worth the read, be you child or adult!
Bartimaeus: arrogant and hilarious. Nathaniel: arrogant and unlikable. Not sure why that was such a winning combination, but it was! The story is complex, funny and imaginative. Can't wait to read the next one. Would recommend to 9+.
This is the first in a series describing Nathaniel's tenuous journey into magic with the help of Batimaeus. Listen to it on audio - you can't stop!
The great use of the dual point of view makes this novel an amazing fantasy tale. I strongly recommend this book to fantasy lovers.
Really good!:)
Very funny, especially the footnotes.
A great, interresting, and fun book. The plot is well written with lots of imagination and uses humour throughout. I really enjoyed the unravelling of the plot and the writing style with the different POVs.
the Bartimaeus trilogy is one of the best works of fantasy ever written, Stroud take the time to fully imagine and describe a fictional alternate history. The trilogy has an excelent plot, and weves together thew POVs of all three of the main characters, one from each section of the world: Nathaniel, a government employee and magician, Bartimaeus, a djini, and Kitty, a member of the resistance. Altogether, a masterpiece.
hate to be negative, but it sounds a little childish.
Brilliantly written, with quite the plot.
