"Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate a life and a role that she has never questioned until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves. Told from multiple points of view, My Sister's Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you? What happens when emotion catches up to scientific advances?" -- Publisher's website.

If you've only seen the movie, do not think you know this story. My Sister's Keeper is much deeper than that. Ethical issue after ethical issue is revealed. Caution: Don't read this book if you aren't ready to cry yourself to sleep.

Finished this book pretty quickly but with some reluctance as I had a feeling it would have a gut-wrenching ending. Beautifully written and not one to read on the bus if you don't enjoy others seeing you cry. Brings up a very interesting ethical issue and demonstrates the incredible bond that can only be experienced between sisters. I will definitely check out some more of Picoult's books.

I love this author! This is the first book of hers I read and I am hooked! It was definitely a page turner and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were interesting and it was a challenging story. I would highly recommend this book.

This is the type of book that just rips your heart out, perhaps even rolling it in broken glass. It's the type that leaves you laying in bed (if you read in bed) completely emotionally drained. Great for anyone in need of a good cry and aspiring physicians / paediatricians. The movie was mostly terrible (although there are some great scenes with Kate alone) and doesn't serve this novel justice at all. I read two other Picoult novels and didn't enjoy them much. A must read.

Okay book until the ending. I felt like the ending was tacked on Hollywood Style. I also felt that more could have been done with the Jesse subplot or else have the character left out entirely.

All of Jodi's books are so filled with emotion that it's a mystery I haven't shed one tear yet. But this book... I mean, WOW. When I finished, that is all I could say. WOW. Beautiful and tear-jerking (for most people), My Sister's Keeper is filled with twists and turns and the hardest decisions imaginable.

A touching story about how death could create deep wounds in a family. I felt that Sara used up all her time on Kate, trying desperately to keep her alive and ending up ignoring the needs of Anna and Jesse. And Anna filed the lawsuit, only to be afraid to admit her feelings. But I love how, coincidentally, Julia and Campbell met each other through the case and mend their broken relationship. The ending left me in tears and a sense of how the wounds turned to everlasting, beautiful scars.

I have not seen the movie but have heard good things so I decided to read the book. It's definitely a page-turner and a tear-jerker. It's nice to read a book with a unique concept.

Anna was concieved through IVF as a genetic match to her sister Kate, who was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia at the age of 2. Initially only Anna's cord blood is donated, but as Kate's disease progresses and changes, Anna's parents have her donate blood and marrow several times. When Anna is 13 and Kate is 16, Kate's kidneys fail. The girls' parents expect Anna to donate a kidney to save Kate's life, as a transplant is Kate's only hope for survival. Anna hires a lawyer, Campbell Alexander, to help her become medically emancipated from her parents. This book follows the course of the trial, as Anna's family tries to come to terms with the lawsuit, and explores the family's life since Kate's diagnosis and their complex relationships with each other. Anna loves her sister--but is she willing to let her die?
