When I read Hotel Du Lac many years ago, I had been through a very sad experience (love lost). The character in this book gave me great comfort in her ability to be independent and choosing to be single and not with a partner. I loved this book so much that I went to Switzerland and stayed at the Hotel Du Lac. It was, for me, exactly how Anita Brookner had described it in her book. I felt how serene it was. It was a beautiful experience.
