… More »Elson is drinking to numb the pain of his broken marriage. His ex-wife lies in a stranger's bed, lonely and waiting for dawn. Their son Richard, a young gay poet, is stunted by a fear of artistic failure. And then there is Chloe. The daughter. The one in love. The one in trouble with the law. The one on the run. This is a novel about the vagaries of love and family, about betrayal and forgiveness, about the possibility and impossibility of coming home.

Add a Commentan engrossing saga of a family slowly disintegrating and struggling to come to terms with the changes, all the while exploring how communication gets skewed when people are not honest and keep secrets out of a sense of misplaced loyalty or shame. Sounds bleak and depressing but it's not. It builds the tension really well to an ending that is not what one expects.
