Biography of a Catholic nun who founded the Order of the Sisters of St Joseph at Penola, South Australia, in 1866. Chronicles her work with the poor as a teacher and social worker, and her temporary excommunication from the Church for alleged insubordination. Destined to be Australia's first saint, she will be beatified by Pope John Paul II on 19 January 1995. Includes black and white photographs, a bibliography and an index. The author is an Australian Jesuit who undertook the research presenterd to the Vatican in support of Mary MacKillop's canonisation.
