I recently learned about Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings after seeing the Netflix documentary on her. I liked this record even though I'm not much of R&B guy, I played it while making dinner. Miss Jones really sold this album with her voice, damn shame she's gone.
This album's title is a contradiction of the meagre 33-1/2 minutes of music on the CD.
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings' "GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT" is the best album they ever put out. It has the flavor of '60s and early '70s soul. It's as if they had recorded it then and just now released it today. I highly recommend this CD to anyone, no matter what flavor of music one listens to. --Mark A. Payne
Good album, but I didn't hear any great songs stick out from the Dap-Kings this time.
This soul/funk band is smoking on this album. While "Stranger to My Happiness" (great horns) and "Long time, Wrong Time" are my big favorites here, another five (#1,3,4,6,10) are also better than average.
