Moons have passed since six cats set out on a journey to save their Clans. The questing cats must now return home after visitng Midnight, a wise badger, who has told them that the Clans must leave their home or be destroyed by the humans who wish to build a highway over their forest. On the return journey, the cats encounter the Tribe of Rushing Water, who have their own traditions and beliefs. They have a prophecy that they believe Stormfur must fulfill. However, his sister Fetaher tail eventually sacrifices her life to kill a mountain cat called Sharptooth, fulfilling the Tribe's prophecy. The cats then return home.
