I rated good & thoroughly enjoyed this read, although I'm sure many would find it too 'old fashioned'. NS writes with clarity, directness, great description & progression in tale. First published in UK as Requiem for a Wren he remains one of my favorite 20C writers. I'm pleased SPL offers this in Ebook for those needing larger print. I'd forgotten this book & was so surprised in reading such familiar locations, knowing exactly where he described - except Australia.

Published in USA under the title The Breaking Wave

A bit more on the romantic side than most but still one of Nevil Shute's best stories.

The main character, Janet Prentice is one of Shute's most fully fleshed out characters, a real person that we grow to care very much about. Shute also does one of his best jobs of coming at the story from two widely separated viewpoints and bringing the two threads together very skillfully.

Highly recommended for anyone who likes Shute's stories.
