Sir John Gorton
He Did It His WayBook - 2002
Authorised biography of John Gorton (1940-2002), who was Australian Prime Minister 1968-71. As a man he was a mix of larrikin and poet. Politically he was a mix of right and left - a facet of his character which infuriated most of his party colleagues. He was the last of the old style liberal conservatives. Gorton believed in economic freedom and sought to achieve reforms in social security, public education and a proper health system for all. Includes photos, bibliography and index. Hancock has taught, researched and published in several areas and contributes articles to newspapers on Australian politics. He is Honorary Visiting Fellow at the Australian Dictionary of Biography in the Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University. His previous book is 'National and Permanent? The Federal Organisation of the Liberal Party of Australia 1944-1965'. Gordon died shortly after the publication of this book.
