A car and a horse and cart stand outside Thornton's Kangaroo Ground Hotel. The horse is feedling from a feed bag. This building was located next door to the Shire of Eltham Council Offices (previously offices of the the Evelyn Observor newspaper) at the top of the hill. Author Alan Marshall resided in this hotel during week days when he worked at the newspaper. This hotel was burned down about 1934.
