The completed tower is a prominent landmark visible from all parts of the Shire. The bump in the Plateau to the right of the transmission line is Mt. Sugarloaf, in the Kinglake National Park. The plateau forms a magnificent background to the Shire's northern boundary, and it was from the western edge, on Mt Disappointment, that Hume and Hovel gained the first European viewof the Diamond Valley area in 1824. In recent times the tower has been referred to as "the chuppa chupp" (after a popular lolly) and "the golf ball".
