This new building was built for the Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works Northern Office. When the MMBW was dismantled the building was sold. It is now part of RMIT University, Bundoora Campus. The complex was considered a great extravagance at the time and dubbed the 'Taj Mahal', a palace for the Board of Works in the northern suburbs. The architect was T Dale Fisher, of Toorak, who had formerly been a MMBW commissioner, representing Prahran City Council.
