30 years after the death of John Lennon, Christopher Eccleston stars as the enigmatic musician in a defining period of his life. This feature length biopic charts Lennons transition from Beatle John to an enduring icon. It covers a period of wildly fluctuating fortunes from 1967 to 1971, from the death of manager Brian Epstein to the break-up of the Beatles to Johns decision to leave England for New York. Its the story of an artist destroying everything to find himself through drugs, break-ups and therapy as he attempts to free himself from the shackles of celebrity and discover himself as a solo recording artist.

Whoever made this movie obviously loathes John Lennon. Christopher Ecclesford plays him with a perpetual sneer and angry demeanor in every scene except ones with Yoko Ono. There is none of the charm and whimsy that must have been part of his personality even in difficult times. A tiresome hack job which I could not watch all the way through.
