Editor Ian Frazier has pulled together a collection of some of the top humor writers from the last thirty years, culled from such publications as The New Yorker, National Lampoon, The Atlantic, and Outside. My reactions to the various selections ranged from a fleeting, pre-smile tic in my cheek to a full-out guffaw that rudely awoke my spouse from his peaceful slumber. Calvin Trillin's offering is a real gem, and Ian Frazier's own biblically-styled "Lamentations of the Father" really had me going. So now that gloomy winter has descended on our fair town, and since the best gift you can give yourself this season is the gift of laughter, I highly recommend this book as a curative for either the blues or the blahs. --Madame Librarian
