In Mt Vernon, Illinois sits a 25-acre yard full of old, broken-down decrepit locomotives. But this is no loco graveyard. At National Railway Equipment Company they reuse, recycle and rebuild old locomotives into higgh-tech, energy efficient machines. Follow a breakdown crew as they tear apart a 50-year-old locomotive and then rebuild her from the frame up. Chains and cranes do the heavy lifting, as power tools crank, torches flare and fires blaze. In just eight weeks, this loco will undergo a complete transformation and emerge again a lean, green pulling machine.
