Boyfriend. The notion still made [Cassie] giddy, even after all these weeks. She watched the way the setting sun brought out the multicolored highlights in Adam’s tangled hair—shades of burgundy and orange—and the crystalline sparkle in his blue eyes.
He leaned in and softly kissed that spot on the side of Cassie’s neck just below her ear. “Fine,” she said. “Three more minutes.”
Their first kiss as a couple had changed everything for Cassie. It meant something. Adam’s lips on hers felt deliberate and momentous, like an agreement, and Cassie’s whole body became aware of that fact. This was love, she’d realized.

Apparently I'm a snob when it comes to spin-off series' not written by the original author. I enjoyed the original Secret Circle trilogy (and yes, was sad when the TV show was cancelled after just one season), but I really didn't find anything to get excited about in this book. I'll finish the spin-off trilogy just to see how it ends (and since it's at least 5 times better than the Wicked series), but my expectations are low.

This is seriously a good read and I like the introduction of Cassie's evil half-sister.

Following the death of her mother, Cassie Blake moves to Chance Harbor, Washington to live with her grandmother. Her attempts to adjust to the new town are crushed when five of her classmates, Adam Conant , Diana Meade , Faye Chamberlain , Melissa Glaser , and Nick Armstrong reveal to Cassie that she comes from a long line of witches and is the final member of their coven; with her they are able to unlock the full extent of their powers. Initially Cassie refuses to believe that she is a witch, even after Adam helps her to unlock her powers. It is only after she discovers an old leather-bound book of spells left to her by her late mother, Amelia, that Cassie begins to accept her power. Inside the book is a message to Cassie explaining that she kept their real family history and her powers a secret in order to keep her safe; as the circle soon finds out, their powers attract dark and dangerous attention that constantly puts them in harm's way.
