On her way to work, secretary Docia Waverly hurtles into a crashing crossroads, and she quickly begins to suspect that things will never be the same. Then, when a tall, blond, muscular stranger intervenes on her behalf, telling her it is his duty to protect her at all costs, what is just a feeling turns to proof positive. That is, as long as Docia's savior doesn't turn out to be a crazed kidnapper.

Book 1 of the World of the Nightwalker series, preceded by first the Nightwalkers series and then the Shadowdwellers series and followed by Forever. Strange story of Docia, a human who came back from the brink of death by making a deal with a bodywalker; and Ramses who is also a bodywalker in the body of Vincent. I didn't really like the idea behind the bodywalkers and I am disappointed with the story altogether. Somehow knowing that there are two souls in one body doesn't appeal to me and the story becomes strange and not sexy at all. I am hoping that the next books of the series will be better and will feature better characters like the night angels or gargoyles - I just have to get past "Forever" as that is the story of Jackson/Menes and Marissa/Hatshepsut.
