David Ireland has a unique style; this is a more accessible book then others of his I have read. It paints an interesting picture of pubs in 1970 and 80s suburban Australian cities. There would be only a few pubs like this left today. The writing is good, and though some of the scenes are a bit over the top it is enjoyable read.
