I have been fan of Tim Winton's writing from the moment I started reading his novels for the first time. This is up to his usual high standard. It's lyrical and beautifully written memoir of his childhood living between the ocean in the morning, surfing, fishing, beachcombing and the afternoon's devouring of books inside due to the wind. You can smell the ocean spray, feel the sand between your toes and the sun on your face such is his skill.
