When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. She thinks he has gone off by himself for a few days, and she wants Strike to find him. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published it would ruin lives - so there are a lot of people who might want to silence him. And when Quine is found brutally murdered in bizarre circumstances, it becomes a race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any he has encountered before...

(The second book in the Cormoran Strike series)

This is a disturbingly good story, made even more so by a great narrator. If you've only read it, I recommend checking out the audio for added depth.

A missing writer, a concerned wife and a provocative manuscript = another great audiobook from Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowlings). Cormoran Strike, a rough around the edges private eye navigates through the literary world searching for the absent author whom he discovers in a grizzly death scene (not for the faint of heart). If you are a fan of Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus, you'll like Cormoran Strike.

Overly grisly and grim. Author seems to have a bone to pick with the publishing industry.
Detective Strike and assistant Robin still great characters but the subject matter in this one is stomach turning and depressing.
