Dark, intense and utterly compelling, Black Dog was an extraordinary first novel from a writer who has rapidly become the most promising crime author to emerge in the genre in years.

'Where Cooper stood was remote and isolated... but the smell that lingered under the trees was of blood'

I think Stehen Booth is the best recent addition to the writers of British detective stories. He sets this book in the peak district and his writing make me see it and feel it's atmosphere. His lead character, Ben Cooper is very likeable, the interplay between characters is complex and the story is totally absorbing.
