Every 12-year-old in Great Britain read this book 100 years ago and made of legend of Cherry-Garrard. Now mostly forgotten, the story and the people need to be remembered for their ordeal in exploring the Antarctic. The descriptions of planning, executing and surviving in the Antarctic winter and summer, grit and self-sacrifice make this one of the best reads for the next 100 years.

I read this many years ago and will never forget it. The stories of the sled dogs and ponies was heartbreaking; the hardship of the men indescribable. It is understandable that this book was never been out of print.

Using first hand experience and the diaries of his fellow team members, the author tells the story of the Scott's ill-fated expedition.

Brilliant. An understated classic of unbelievable hardship. The worst journey in the world is not Scott's trip to the Pole, but the three man trip in complete darkness for the eggs of emperor penguins in which unimaginable disasters befall them.
