"In his new book, Tom Engelhardt takes in something new under the sun: what is no longer, as in the 1960s, a national security state, but a global security one, fighting secret wars that have turned the president into an assassin-in-chief. Shadow Government offers a powerful survey of a democracy of the wealthy that your grandparents wouldn't have recognized"--

Have a problem with this - - not just that Tom quotes Hersh, Ignatius and Chalmers Johnson [now deceased], individuals I've often wondered as to whether they were on the CIA's payroll, but the overall thesis - - it is all due to incompetence and overreaching? Nothing is by design? Oh. . . . really? Follow the money or please try not to make things even more befuddled! The ONLY reason America hasn't experienced another 9/11 is that an oil company and the CIA has yet to finance and arm another Taliban and al-Qaeda [although ISIS seems to fit their pattern?].
