Produced in 2016, this 99-minute documentary delves into the life of Orry-Kelly who journeyed from Australia to New York to pursue an acting career and shared an apartment there with Charles Phelps (also known as Charlie Spangles) and Cary Grant.
A job painting murals in a nightclub led to his employment by Fox East Coast studios illustrating titles.
He designed costumes and sets for Broadway's Shubert Revues and George White's Scandals.
He served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II until being discharged for alcohol problems.
A longtime alcoholic, Orry-Kelly died of liver cancer in Hollywood and was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills.
His pallbearers included Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Billy Wilder and George Cukor.

At the height of his career - Australian-born fashion designer, Orry-Kelly was one of the most successful creators in his field during Hollywood's golden years.

If you are interested in seeing what all of the fuss was about when Orry-Kelly dressed Tinseltown celebrities in "top-of-the-line" style - Then - You need look no further than this totally entertaining, fashion-conscious documentary.

I think that it's incredible to note that in his 30 years of costume design - Orry-Kelly was credited for his contributions to nearly 300 films.

A 3-time Oscar winner - Orry-Kelly was one of Hollywood's top fashion designers who (in his heyday - 1932-1963) dressed some of the biggest "big-name" actresses in motion picture history.

Born (1897) in Kiama, Australia - Orry-Kelly (who worked through such notable movie studios as Warner Bros., MGM, and Universal) is credited for being the costume designer for (get this!) more than 250 films.

Through stills, archival footage, and interviews - This celebrity bio-documentary looks at the life and times of Orry-Kelly (who died in 1964, at the age of 66, from liver cancer).

"Woman He's Undressed" is an excellent documentary film. Unfortunately there isn't much actual film footage of Orry Kelly available. Mr. Kelly was behind the scenes in Hollywood. Orriy Kelly was a costume/fashion designer during the golden age of Hollywood. He won three Academy awards for costume design. The designed the fabulous dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in Some Like it Hot. Kelly had secrets. His work is in full display in almost 300 movies.

I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary on the life of the amazing Australian costume-designer Orry-Kelly. As much as anything, it was a wonderful potted history of the halcyon days of American cinema in the first half of the 20th century. The parade of iconic actors and films featured in the documentary has made me want to watch more from this period. I agree that the device of using an actor to play Orry Kelly in slightly surreal, direct-to-camera monologues was disconcerting but it didn't detract too much from the overall film.

Did not like the filmmaker's device that uses actors to portray Orry-Kelly and others to tell the documentary's story. It was an original approach but it didn't work for me. Otherwise, the expert commentary from other costume designers explaining the craft, history and challenges of good costume design provided insightful context to the amazing accomplishments of Orry-Kelly. The film is full of Hollywood gossip, film-making asides and movie clips that any classic film fan will enjoy.

Until now I had never heard of Orry Kelly. Amazing costume designer, with three Oscars!
Did not know about a supposed relation ship with Archie Leach
(Cary Grant).

Women He's Undressed is a cinema length documentary that explores the life of Australia's most prolific costume designer. Until now Orry-Kelly has been unacknowledged in his country of birth and pretty well forgotten in the adopted country of his greatest success. During the boom years of Hollywood he was the costume designer on an astonishing 282 motion pictures. He designed for the stars like Marilyn Munroe, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Rosalind Russell, Errol Flynn and many more of the immortals. His films included Some Like It Hot, Casablanca, An American in Paris and Now, Voyager. Orry-Kelly (Jack to his friends) won three Academy Awards and was nominated for a fourth. Orry-Kelly was Head of Warner Brothers Costume Department during the richest period of American film, the establishment of the dream factory and its effect on mass culture. He was outrageous, witty, outspoken, a drinker and uncompromising but he survived partially protected by his friendship with Jack and Ann ... Written by Damien Parer
