When one reads anyone a James Bond novel must not expect the Bond from the movies, and it’s especial so with Moonraker which is totally different than the movie. The novel is more down to earth than the movie, which made me happy and Bond is a more interesting character than he is in any of the movies. The story is simple out school. M asks Bond to look into Sir Hugo Drax who is the head of the new national defense system because he found out the name is a card shark. Bond goes undercover to find the truth of course he runs into a beautiful woman Gale Brand, but don’t expect her to jump in bed with him, which for me is a good thing. Of course you get all the action that you expect from Bond and with he’s maker Ian Flaming at the typewriter it never feels silly as a good deal of the movies do. No stupid gadgets here just a good old fashion cold war spy action tale that cannot beat. I highly recommend this book to see how the real James Bond was or whoever loves a good action tale.
