Finally settled into their new home after losing their house in a fire, and fully established in their new shared offices, private investigator Sharon McCone and her business partner husband Hy are starting to feel comfortable. That calm is shattered when Hy's former colleague Gage Renshaw, a shady troublemaker who they had presumed dead reappears, and it's unclear what he wants from his prosperous former associate. Meanwhile, Sharon has a new client with a desire to rid a derelict house he's just bought in the city's notorious Western Addition neighborhood from intruders, drug users, and thugs. However, the abandoned house holds its share of secrets, and soon Sharon is contending with more than a simple eyesore as she searches for the individual who is obsessed with destroying her life.

This is the first time reading this author and the Sharon McCone series. This book was a light mystery....nothing too deep. If you're looking for a quick read this would be the book to pick up.

Sharon McCone has come a long way in her years as a San Fransico sleuth, and her business has burgeoned and bloomed to the point of having her own building. Husband Hy still disappears on top secret missions, and now a former partner and long thought dead enemy has popped into their lives again. As always, a good mystery, set in San Francisco, featuring Sharon's friends and family whose lives are as much a part of the story as the plot.

The longevity of this series means readers can track Sharon McCone's life, personal and professional, over a long period of time. She's taken some hard knocks but has also achieved considerable financial and professional success. All this pales into insignificance when a serious threat from the past emerges and Hy goes missing.

Very disappointing. Not up to her usual standards at all.

Not up to her usual standard. This read like her heart wasn't really in it. The characters were flat and the mystery was not intriguing.

I felt like it was the same old, same old. I feel as if the author is tired of writing about Sharon McCone and has nothing new to say. Much as i have enjoyed this series not sure i would read another. Plus I had the audio version and the person reading was horrible.
