I liked this book, but I read it shortly after reading The Paris Key. There were too many similarities between the books: an American in Paris who doesn't know if she'll stay, quirky Parisian friends, jumps in time, protagonists with unusual professions, secretive parents. It is a quick read with charming parts.

This is not a lighthearted paranormal/mystery novel as is her earlier work, but a Romance novel alternating between modern and 19th century story lines. Blackwell's last book, "The Paris Key" is also about a young woman going to Paris and learning family secrets, which I did like. But I have to say this is the first book I ever abandoned to peek at the last chapter... and what's more read a few lines there and gave up entirely. Nice characters, intelligent writing, a higher requirement for suspension of disbelief than I could muster.
