PEOPLE & PLACES (CHILDREN'S / TEENAGE). This Is How We Do It follows the lives of seven REAL kids from Japan, Uganda, Russia, Iran, Peru, India and Italy for a single day. From the time each kid wakes up until the time they fall asleep, the details of their days differ: their homes are different, their schools are different, even how they play is different. In Japan, Kei plays Freeze Tag. In Uganda, Daphine likes to jump rope. In Russia, Oleg plays hockey almost every day after school. But the shared rhythm of their days--and this one world we all share--unite them together. This genuine exchange between real kids provides a window into lifestyles and traditions that may differ from our own, as well as a mirror reflecting the common experiences that unite us all. Ages 7+

I loved reading this book with my 7 year old. It shows images of children and their families doing chores, eating meals, and playing together from all over the world. This is a great book to share with your child to help them learn how different AND similar other cultures are. Highly recommended!

Beautiful illustration, good book for young kids to see diversity in the world.

What a lovely nonfiction picture book! It is lengthy, so it isn't necessarily meant to be read aloud in one sitting. The author notes sum up this one perfectly. Matt Lamothe writes "I hope to surprise readers with similarities between us, as well as teach readers about the things we do completely differently". A job well done!
