This could have been SO much better! Russell Crowe did very well with what he had and kudos to him as did The Mummy herself (loved those double eyes by the way!) but Cruise was flat, no question and absolutely no chemistry between the leads - there was more between the sidekick and Cruise than him and his leading lady, sad to say. Some thrills but needed more to hold attention and grab the viewers heart. Perfect set-up for a sequel though. Final verdict just in: Not bad but not particularly good either - mediocre says it best.

I find it quite boring. The story line is expected and no surprise just like any typical action movie of the same kind.

Good Tom Cruise movie. Russel Crowe was a good pick for his role. Cant wait for the other Dark Universe movies.

A good movie overall that starts Universal's Dark Universe line. However, it lacks the depth of bringing something new to the mythos. This movie is a remake of a remake of the Brandon Fraiser version, just substitute a male mummy with a female mummy (the trend in Hollywood currently). I was disappointed in the lack of makeup with Dr. Jackal/Mr. Hyde and instead using CGI to change Russell Crow's face. For me...these little details could have made the movie more enjoyable. Still a good movie.

A pretty dumb plot overshadows the CGI effects of this films. I knew what I was getting into but still couldn't help but felt disappointed. Not worth my while at all.

Not the best, but still its a decent movie. If you looking for it to be a remake of the past mummy movies you will be disappointed, but this is still a good movie and enjoyable to watch.

Shortly after The Mummy begins, there is an extended narrative sequence set in ancient Egypt which tells the audience virtually everything we will ever know about the antagonist. This typifies the film as a whole, which, though it is a Mummy movie guest-starring Dr Jekyll, feels as though it was created by Dr Frankenstein out of the discarded parts of better movies. Jekyll is only one of several characters whose primary function is to provide exposition, despite the fact that the plot is not really all that complicated. An uncharacteristically uncharismatic performance by Tom Cruise (and the almost complete lack of chemistry between him and his love interest) only compounds the problem. Add in unnecessary and distracting CGI and the result is a boring, bloodless, dessicated husk.

Another mission impossible to remake an excellent original, in this case, the 1999 Mummy. Nonetheless, a pleasure watch: mega stars Cruise & Crowe, fresh chapter of the Egyptian legend, a conspiracy, well done stunts, above average CGI and those mandatory zombies in modern horror films.

Notes: Per film reporter Stephanie Chan - The writing on Ahmanet's body comes from the ancient Egyptian funerary text Book of the Dead and "the incantation asking the dead to come and help her," explains the makeup artist of the lines of symbols running from Ahmanet's face down to her legs and feet.

Neither the characters nor the plot make any sense at all. Endless CGI to no good purpose.

This movie disappointed. It's not bad, but it doesn't have much to do with 'The Mummy', and I certainly didn't get any scary vibes. This movie makes me question if Universal even knows how to make 'Monster movies' anymore.

The legend:
Well, we've developed this theory that an Egyptian princess had been erased from the history books deliberately. We've been searching for something called the Dagger of Set. A ceremonial knife with a large jewel at the hilt. Set is the Egyptian god of death. And legend has it that the dagger and the stone, together, had the power to give Set physical form. I'm convinced it was hidden here in Europe. Stolen by Crusaders centuries ago. I found reference to it in a manuscript written by a Crusader knight that suggested the dagger was broken apart. That the stone was buried with this
knight somewhere here in England. A massive Crusader tomb was recently discovered under London. We believe that the stone is in there somewhere. That tomb is what led us to Ahmanet. I think she's the princess in the legend. The hieroglyphs said she murdered her father. ... Along with his child. She made some sort of pact with the god of death...

It is my job to make sure that anything of value stays out of enemy hands. We have no idea what could be down there. The contents of Tutankhamun's tomb alone were valued at 650 million pounds sterling.
Perhaps. Sometimes, it does take a monster to fight a monster.
He is also still a man.
-A good man. Perhaps. Yet he has only begun to discover his power. And we cannot know which side will win out. Between darkness and light, good or evil.
Princess Ahmanet. Beautiful, cunning, and ruthless. Sole heir to the throne of Egypt. The pharaoh's kingdom would one day be hers to rule without mercy or fear. And Ahmanet would be worshipped as a living god. But Pharaoh had a son. The boy, now, would inherit her destiny. And Ahmanet understood power was not given. It had to be taken.
But death is a doorway, and the past cannot remain buried forever.
