Winter Parva, a traditional Cotswolds village next door to Carsely, has decided to throw a celebratory hog roast to mark the beginning of the winter holiday festivities and Agatha Raisin has arrived with friend and rival in the sleuthing business, Toni, to enjoy the merriment. But, as the spit pig is carried towards the bed of fiery charcoal, Agatha - and the rest of the village - realise that things aren't as they seem...Very quickly it transpires that the spit pig is in fact Gary Beech, a policeman not much loved in Winter Parva. And although Agatha has every intention of leaving the affair to the police, she rapidly changes her mind when she finds out Gary's ex-wife has hired Toni to investigate. Cantankerous and competitive as Agatha is, she has to now join the fray and try and solve the case herself!

Love the Agatha Raisin series... But the large print of this book has a poor denoument. Quite unlike the others. Maybe the other versions include more of a conclusion..?

A bit more graphic than some of the earlier novels in this series. Not the most loveable characters, but still have to keep reading to find out the latest antics!

So typically Agatha Raisin! Busy adjusting her mascara and scarfing down a pub meal as she bulldozes her way to solving the latest murder mystery....with the vicar's wife, her loyal detective agents and prospective lovers in tow.

A quick read but I always look forward to the next one :)

Agatha is back and (delightfully) brash and blunt as usual.

It occurred to me that the things I most enjoy about this series—the familiar jokes Beaton includes in each book—might be the very things that would drive someone else crazy. Agatha’s always stubborn and hungry for publicity, she’s still got her never-ending obsession with men (including…still…James Lacey), and I still laugh every time.

I love her Agatha Raisin and Hamish MacBeth mysteries. Also all of her Marion Chesney Regencies and Edwardian romances.
