The story begins with my father, actually, and the fact that I'm the one who's answerable for his death. It was not my first crime, as you will see, but it is the one my mother couldn't forgive.' Playing for the Ashes is a rich tale of passion, murder and love in which Inspector Thomas Lynley and Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers once again find themselves embroiled in a case where nothing - and no one - is really what it seems.

I've read all of the Lynley series of books so far and have enjoyed this one the most. I find that the author really delves into all sides of the characters to help us understand what motivates them. I feel like I know them personally, and can't wait to read what direction their lives take next.

One of my favorites in this series.
I prefer the stories that concentrate more on the mystery and less on the personal lives of Lynley and Havers.

Somewhat different from the first 6 Elizabeth George novels---maybe the best yet. The series is definitely not going stale with this one.
