Kai burns to become a hunter and to earn a rightful place among his people. But that can never be. He was born with a clubfoot. It is forbidden for him to use or even touch a hunter's sacred weapons. Shunned by the other boys, Kai turns to his true friends, the yellow wolves, for companionship. They have not forgotten the young human they nurtured as an abandoned infant. When Kai discovers a motherless cub in the pack, he risks everything to save her, bringing her back to live with him. But as winter draws near, Kai's wolf grows ever more threatening in the eyes of the People. When the worst happens, Kai knows that they must leave for good. Together, they embark on a journey into the north, a place of unimaginable danger, that tests the power of friendship and the will to survive.

The Wolf's Boy is about a boy called Kai. He is the outcast, he was supposed to die. Since he was born with a twisted foot, his father left him to the wolves, but instead of eating him, the wolves took care of him. Eventually, his mother came a brought him back to the village. Ever since he was brought back, people thought of him as taboo. Despite knowing this, Kai takes in a wolf pup that couldn't survive. This pair grows up together and eventually leave the village. This book leads you through the life of Kai and his wolf.

I held off on reading this one for a few months, despite the many starred reviews it received, because I wasn't super intrigued by the idea of a book set during prehistoric times, but I ended up liking this more than I expected to. At the heart of the story is the friendship between a boy born with a clubfoot and the wolf pup he adopts, and having this relationship at the center of the story makes this book one that will resonate with readers, despite the total foreignness of the world depicted (in impressive detail, I have to add).

A typical "coming of age" story of a young boy. Main difference is it is set in prehistoric times and he has a messed up foot that ostracizes him. Decent enough story.
