You are supposed to read the book first. Yes they changed alot of the things but trust me reading the book before the tv show is worth it because that's what i did.

The books were written in 1991 and are extremely different from the telly, but the show is so worth it, for one reason:

Joseph Morgan.

The show is de-lish (Ian somhandler is gorgeus) but will the book satisfy me as well??

I did the unthinkable: I got hooked on the show and headed into the book with high expectations. Blasphemy. In doing so, I do believe this first book was ruined for me. I had a very hard time getting through it, as it seemed juvenile and cheesy as all get out! But...it started to show some potential toward the end, and I found myself with that familiar anxious longing to immediately start the next book. The teaser chapter at the end was hardly satisfying.

All in all, I recommend this book to fans of vampires, Twilight (of which I think this series inspired), and the CW show. It's a quick and easy read once you get past the stink of cheese.

This was an awesome book! It just took me forever to figure out which one was the first two! The summaries never really tell you much about them. :(
