The first title in a brand new spin-off series. This title picks up the story from where "Victorious" ended and continues the adventures of Black Jack Geary. Captain John "Black Jack" Geary woke from a century of survival to hibernation to take command of the Alliance fleet in the final throes of its long and bitter conflict against the Syndicate of Worlds. Now Admiral Geary's victory has earned him the adoration of the people and enmity of politicians convinced that a living hero can be a very dangerous thing.

Story is bit windy given new characters & new mission ,but not as wordy or long as say David Weber.

very readable, advances the story-line and character development nicely, but it is really meant to lead into Invincible, the next book in the series. I have to wonder if they were originally one big book.

Another very easy to read book in the Lost Fleet series, looking forward to the next edition.
